The Democrats are celebrating in Washington after being confirmed as the majority party in both the United States Senate and the House of Representatives. The Senate victory was clinched when the final seat was declared in the state of Virginia. The Republican candidate George Allen acknowledged his defeat at the hand of his Democratic rival Jim Webb. In his “exemption” speech, Mr. Webb called on President Bush to denounce what he described as the Brutal Tactic seen through Republican campaign. Earlier Mr. Bush said he expected politicians to work together to help America achieve its goals in Iraq. But Democratic congressman for North Carolina David Price told the BBC he believed both sides would find a common ground. “There is no question the center of gravity in the parties has grown apart. There…it’s more polarized situation. At the same time, there’s no reason I believe for the kind of hyper-partnership that we’ve seen in recent years and there’s certainly no reason for the congress simply to roll over and play dead for any President. The challenge on the Democratic side is going to beat to find an agenda that brings us together. ” A judge in Argentina has issued an international arrest warrant for the former President of Iran Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani over the bombing of a Jewish center in Buenos Aires in 1994. This follows the latest investigation by the Argentina authorities into the attack which killed 85 people. The investigation blamed the Iranian government for organizing the bombing. Iran has always denied any involvement. Iran’s representative in Argentina Dr. Mohsen Baharvand told the BBC that Iran would ignore the arrest warrant as it was not responsible for the bombing. “We categorically reject this accusation. Iran has repeatedly said that Iran has had nothing to do with this kind of action. The prosecutors’ investigation is now published and everybody who reads this report, sees that there is no hard evidence in that.” 楼主
